From humble beginnings at a Philadelphia storefront in 1891, Acme Markets has stood the test of time with a focus on quality, fair prices and friendly service.
The company founded by Samuel Robinson and Robert Crawford carried the name that bore the friends' business philosophy: The House that Quality Built. Robinson and Crawford merged their store with four Philadelphia grocers in 1917 to become the American Stores Company. In the 1930s, most of the grocer's storefronts became Acme Markets.
Today, Acme Markets operates 129 supermarkets in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
