Located in St. Louis, SHOP 'N SAVE® continues to grow, constantly seeking newer and more innovative ways of food merchandising.
SHOP 'N SAVE first opened its doors in 1979, and was acquired by Wetterau, Inc. in 1983. With SUPERVALU's acquisition of Wetterau in 1992, SHOP 'N SAVE became part of SUPERVALU®.
SHOP 'N SAVE started in the St. Louis metropolitan area with the goal of bringing customers lower food prices by eliminating certain "frills" and establishing more modern systems of stocking, displaying and checkout procedures. By doing so, SHOP 'N SAVE lowered food prices to the consumer by as much as 20 percent.
Over the years, SHOP 'N SAVE has grown to 42 stores in the metro St. Louis area. During that time, stores have been enhanced to include specialty departments like bakery, deli, seafood, videos and floral.
SHOP 'N SAVE St. Louis co-sponsors the annual Race Night for Special Olympics. In July 2004, 127 race cars competed at the I-55 Raceway, with proceeds benefiting Special Olympics Missouri.
