At the heart of our charitable giving is the idea that being a good corporate citizen is an ongoing responsibility.  Through the SUPERVALU Foundation and the company's geographical businesses (retail, wholesale and subsidiaries) we strive to affect positive change through financial support, product donations and volunteerism.

Hunger relief

SUPERVALU is proud to partner with Feeding America and its local affiliates through the Fresh Rescue initiative, the company's key food donation program.  Each week, fresh fruit, vegetables and meat that has reached its official "sell by" date, but is still safe and edible, is donated to local area food banks - providing nutritious food to those in need while eliminating unnecessary food waste. Additionally, customer and employee generosity is on display throughout the year during annual food drives and product collections at our retail locations. SUPERVALU employees also offer logistics support and expertise, and several sit on Feeding America’s local boards of directors.

Financial support

SUPERVALU funds nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organizations through program-specific and general operating grants delivering much-needed services to individuals and families. And our sponsorship of local and regional events allows us to support the communities we call home.

Employee volunteerism

The SUPERVALU Volunteers in Action (VIA) program mobilizes employees across the company and the country to serve causes that align with our giving areas.  SUPERVALU recognizes our employees also contribute their time and energy to a side array of charities outside the opportunities organized by the company.  Through the Dollars for Service program, SUPERVALU honors the personal commitments made by our employees, funding grants in their name to the nonprofit organizations where employees volunteer their time and talent.
